Minister Iqbal files Bangsamoro Education Code

COTABATO CITY – Education Minister and Member of Parliament Mohagher Iqbal filed the proposed Bangsamoro Education Code (BEC) in the Bangsamoro Transition Authority parliament during a special session on Wednesday, October 28.

The BEC or BTA Parliament Bill No. 70 is “an act providing for the establishment, maintenance, and support of a complete and integrated system of quality education in the Bangsamoro”. It is one of the six priority legislations the BTA needs to pass during the transition period.

BTA approves Bangsamoro Administrative Code

COTABATO CITY – Bangsamoro Transition Authority approved the Bangsamoro Administrative Code (BAC) during a special session on its second regular session held Wednesday, October 28.
  
58 Members of the Parliament (MP) voted for the passage of Cabinet Bill No. 60 entitled “An act providing for the Bangsamoro Administrative Code and for other related purposes.”

By nominal voting, 26 voted physically while 32 voted via zoom. None of the MPs voted against nor abstained on the approval of the said bill, which is authored by the Government of the Day.

Historic Malabang town rising from underdevelopment

LANAO DEL SUR --- There are 33 street sweepers now maintaining cleanliness in the old seaside Malabang town, something residents have never ever seen before.

Malabang, existing since before World War II, is an old settlement in the second district of Lanao del Sur, a component-province of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. 

It was only in 2019 that residents of Malabang, locked in deadly clan wars for decades, have seen dramatic improvements in the municipality, ushered in by reforms introduced by a newcomer mayor, the 32-year-old Tomas Macapodi.

UN donates coronavirus protection supplies to Bangsamoro police

COTABATO CITY ---- The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes has donated 79,360 biohazard facemasks and other supplies for anti-COVID-19 frontliners in the Bangsamoro regional police.

Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, Bangsamoro local government minister, said Saturday the supplies were turned over Thursday by a UNODC representative, Renato Reynaldo Rosales, to Police Brig. Gen. Samuel Rodriguez.

MENRE starts reforestation in Lanao del Sur

MARAWI CITY—About 90, 000 plantable mahogany and coffee saplings were handed over to 103rd Base Command Producers Cooperative to start the reforestation in Barangay Dilimbayan, Maguing, Lanao del Sur on Thursday, Oct. 22.

The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy (MENRE), through its Integrated Bangsamoro Greening Program (IBGP), initiated the tree planting activity with some local officials in the said  barangay. 

BTA Parliament establishes COVID-19 ‘HelpLink’

COTABATO CITY --- The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament has established an initiative project, known as COVID-19 ‘HelpLink,’ that would link together various offices and activities within the BTA Parliament to further reduce the risks of disease transmission among the BTA staff and its officers.

Shariff Aguak LGU settles feud of 2 commanders  

COTABATO CITY - Commanders of two feudal groups in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front forged a peace covenant Tuesday to end a longtime “rido” that exacted fatalities on both sides.

Rido is a common term for clan war in many southern vernaculars.

The leaders of the two rival groups, Emran Dawaling and Hadji Abubakar Midsabala, reconciled through the intercession of Mayor Marop Ampatuan of Shariff Aguak town in the second district of Maguindanao province. 

BARMM’s campaign vs. illegal recruitment intensified

COTABATO CITY --- The Bangsamoro labor ministry again cracked the whip on illegal recruiters, traffickers and syndicates facilitating irregular migration, Regional Minister Romeo Sema said Saturday.

The Ministry of Labor and Employment-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, started disseminating this week the intricacies of its Campaign Against Illegal Recruitment, Trafficking and Irregular Migration, or CAIRTIM program, during a big forum in Kabacan town in North Cotabato province.

UNICEF, UK gov't, BARMM together vs. pandemic

COTABATO CITY— The United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund has provided the Bangsamoro government with more lifesaving supplies in support of its war on COVID-19 in five southern provinces.

The initiative of UNICEF, which has humanitarian projects in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao covering the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, is supported by the British government.

BARMM agencies help fire, flood victims

COTABATO CITY --- The Bangsamoro government released Thursday P10,000 cash assistance each to the heads of the 13 families in Cotabato City whose houses were razed by fire last week.

The cash grants were facilitated by the office of Naguib Sinarimbo, local government minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and head of BARMM’s Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence, or READI contingent.
