2 Abu Sayyaf dead in Basilan clash

COTABATO CITY - Soldiers shot dead two members of the Abu Sayyaf in a brief clash in a secluded barangay in Sumisip town in Basilan Tuesday.

Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, commander of the military’s Western Mindanao Command and Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, had separately confirmed the incident to reporters Wednesday and assured Basilan residents that their units in the province are guarding against retaliations by the group.

4 dead as container van falls on dump truck in Lanao del Norte

COTABATO CITY --- Four hitchhikers were killed on the spot when a container van, dislodged from an over speeding trailer truck, landed on a dump truck in Sultan Naga Dimaporo town in Lanao del Norte Sunday.

Captain Christian Patayon, acting chief of the Sultan Naga Dimaporo municipal police, identified the fatalities as Robinson Canoos, 51, his 10-year-old son Jussin, Rusita Becoy, 60, and the 50-year-old Samuel Ceniza.

Villager dead, 4 hurt in Lamitan gun attack

COTABATO CITY --- A guest in a traditional Yakan child baptismal rite was killed while five others, four of them minors, were badly hurt in a gun attack late Friday in an interior barangay in Lamitan City in Basilan.

Brig. Gen. Alex Nobleza, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, identified the fatality as Amilhassan Asbito, 56, a resident of Sitio Puno Ubag in Barangay Badjah in nearby Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.

29, 314 board feet of lumber seized in two Caraga provinces

COTABATO CITY - The police seized 29, 314 board feet of lumbers in separate police anti-illegal logging operations in the past six days in two provinces in the Caraga region.

Brig. Gen. Pablo Labra, director of the Police Regional Office-13, told reporters Wednesday that the confiscation of the illegal forest products was done with the help of personnel of the Caraga regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

GenSan market stalls shut for selling tuna with pig's blood

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - The local government unit here had shut four vending stalls in a market whose owners sold cuts of tuna smeared with blood of pigs to look fresh.

In a statement Saturday, the General Santos City government confirmed that its law-enforcement personnel and officials of a local market vendors’ association together ordered the four stall owners to stop operating pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against them.

Tawi-Tawi drug peddler falls

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao Norte - Joint forces of the Tawi-Tawi PNP, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Philippine Marines arrested a drug peddler in Bongao town and seized from him P136,00 worth of shabu and paraphernalia during buy bust operation Thursday.

The suspect was identified as Malik Kalbi, a resident of Bongao and region's Top 10 wanted drug personality.

Driver dead, truck and motorcycles on cargo deck damaged 

COTABATO CITY --- A driver was killed while his assistant was badly hurt when their flatbed truck loaded with more than 30 new motorcycles they were to deliver to a distributor plunged into a ravine Thursday. 

In an official statement Saturday, the Imelda Municipal Police Station in Imelda town in Zamboanga Sibugay identified the fatality as Feliciano Saner, 54, driver of the cargo that figured in an accident along a stretch of a national highway in Barangay Lumbog that also injured his 24-year-old aide, Ariel Tidalgo.

Police intel agent shot dead in General Santos City

COTABATO CITY - Two men shot dead a police intelligence agent in an attack on Tuesday night along a busy thoroughfare in General Santos City.

Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, director of the Police Regional Office-12, on Thursday identified the fatality as Senior Master Sgt. Peteselier Licanto.

Licanto, who belonged to an intelligence unit of the Sarangani Provincial Police Office under PRO-12, died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.

Mom murdered on Mother’s Day

COTABATO CITY - A 30-year-old husband is now in jail for killing his wife with a .45 caliber pistol in Glan town in Sarangani province on Sunday, Mother’s Day.

Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, director of the Police Regional Office-12, on Monday identified the fatality as Yonilyn Cago Segapu, 29, who died instantly from gunshot wounds in the head.

COTABATO CITY - A jewelry store owner lost some P10 million worth of gold jewelry and P250,000 cash in a daring heist by two motorcycle-riding gunmen on Sunday afternoon in Isabela City, Basilan.

Lt. Col. Junpikar Sitin, chief of the Isabela City Police Station, told reporters Monday businesswoman Hadja Sharifa Latip Ali was on her way home from her jewelry store when two men on a motorcycle together flag her down while at a busy stretch of the Legaspi Road in the city, grabbed from her a big shopping bag filled with jewelry and sped away.
