Mystery shrouds soldier's death along highway in Pagadian City

COTABATO CITY - Police investigators are still trying to make sense of how a soldier returning to their camp from somewhere mysteriously died along a highway in Barangay Baloybuan in Pagadian City, his cadaver and motorcycle found about three meters apart along the route early Monday.


3 dead as pick-up truck ram tricycle in Sarangani highway

Two passengers and a driver were killed instantly when a wayward pick-up truck rammed a tricycle head-on at a stretch of a highway in Barangay Tinoto in Maasim town in Sarangani before dawn Friday.

The Sarangani Provincial Police Office, in a report on Saturday to Region 12 police director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, said the three tricycle passengers, Loreto Zamora, Jomar Pilon and Erwin Pilon died on the spot from injuries sustained in the accident.

Barangay exec slain, two co-chairmen hurt in Zamboanga City gun attack

COTABATO CITY - Suspected hired killers shot dead the president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Isabela City, Basilan and wounded two other members of the group in a daring attack on Sunday night in Zamboanga City.

Col. Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City police director, said on Monday morning that Franklyn Galos Tan, chairman of Barangay Seaside in Isabela City, one of two cities in the nearby island province of Basilan, died on the spot from bullet wounds sustained in the attack.


22 more firearms surrendered by Basilan residents

COTABATO CITY - Residents of three now markedly peaceful towns in Basilan turned in 22 more firearms to the military on Saturday in support of a domestic disarmament program of their provincial government.

The Small Arms and Light Weapons Management Program of the administration of Basilan Gov. Hadjiman Salliman is being implemented in the province with the help of the Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade, the Basilan Provincial Police Office and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity.


P3.4-M worth shabu seized in deadly Sulu entrapment operation

COTABATO CITY --- Anti-narcotics agents seized P3.4 million worth of shabu from two peddlers entrapped on Sunday in the town proper of Maimbung in Sulu, one of them killed for resisting arrest.

Gil Cesario Castro, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, told reporters on Monday that one of the two suspects, Alex Hussin, is now detained, to be prosecuted for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.


Folks in Basilan's port city surrender rifles, machinegun

COTABATO CITY - Barangay leaders in Isabela City, Basilan on Thursday surrendered to the military 19 combat rifles and a light machinegun in support of the government’s disarmament campaign complementing the Mindanao peace process.

Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, commander of the Philippine Army, and Bangsamoro regional police director Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza separately announced on Friday the turnover of the firearms to the 101st Infantry Brigade via the 19th Special Forces Company during a symbolic rite in Barangay Tabuk in Isabela City.


P27.2-M worth shabu seized in Zamboanga City entrapment operation

COTABATO CITY - Plainclothes policemen seized P27.2 million worth of shabu from four alleged dealers entrapped on Wednesday afternoon in Zamboanga City.

Ben Kalbi Basaludin, 33, Nadmar Elyas, 38, Abdul, Wali Handrang Jala, 32, and a 30-year-old woman named Noralyn Tahil Abdul, are now detained, awaiting prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.


7 slain individuals buried together exhumed in Lanao del Norte

COTABATO CITY - The police recovered seven persons together in a shallow grave in Barangay Karkum in Sapad, Lanao del Norte on Sunday.

Police Major Alibsar Daraba, Sapad police chief, identified the fatalities as Joselito Gaviola, 54; Joselito’s wife, Marly Gaviola, 50; his younger sister Elvie Gaviola Legara, 43; Elvie’s husband, Epifanio Legara; and their three children, Jopay Legara, Jomar Legara and Epifanio Legara Jr.

Kinilala ng Bansalan PNP ang nasawi na si Philip Sonny Dizon, 62 taong gulang at may-ari ng Davao Crocodile Park at Dizon Farms.

Sa imbestigasyon ng Bansalan PNP, minamaneho ni Dizon ang kanyang Can-Am ATV high-end motorbike patunong Barangay Banaga sa Bansalan mula Davao City nang mawalan ito ng kontrol sa dalang motorsiklo alas 11 ng umaga.

Napadako sa opposing lane ng kalsada si Dizon at nabigla sa kasalubong na cargo truck.  Bigla itong nagpreno at nawalan ng control at bumaligtad sa kalsada.
