COTABATO CITY - A mentally-challenged man killed his son and niece, both pre-school children, and wounded three more in a machete attack in Sarangani province Saturday.

Lt. Col. Geovanni Ladeo, police chief of Glan municipality in Sarangani, said Monday the culprit, Jovel Pondong, 30, was eventually shot dead by a responding volunteer community watchman, also related to him by blood.

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao - Two members of an elite Army unit got killed in an anti-narcotics operation early Thursday in Isabela City, Basilan that went haywire.

Initial reports reaching the headquarters here of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region stated that the fatalities belonged to an Army Special Forces Company under the 101st Infantry Brigade based in Isabela City.

Army Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, commander of the anti-terror Joint Task Force Basilan, has confirmed the incident to reporters.

COTABATO CITY  - More than P300,000 worth of shabu were seized during joint search warrant operation by PDEA Sulu Provincial Office; RIU-IX; 7TH SAB SAF; CIDG ID; Kalingalan Caluang MPS; 1st PMFC and SPPO PIU which resulted in the arrest of Siraina Ummal Ahajan alias Ellay Jailudin/alias Ellay 32 years old, female, at Sitio Campagayo, Barangay Masjid Pinjungan, Kalingalan Caluang, Sulu Province at 04:04 p.m. of September 24, 2022.

However, her husband, Basal Jailudin alias Bas, who is also one of the target of the search warrant, was not present during the operation.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is setting up another emergency response base in Basilan, this time on a 1,000-square meter seaside area donated by the Lamitan City government.

The PCG has an operation center in Isabela City, about 28 kilometers away, one of two cities in Basilan that also has 11 municipalities.

In separate statements Wednesday, the PCG offices in the cities of Zamboanga and Isabela said Coast Guard officials were elated with the lot donation, sealed with a document signed on September 15 by Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay and Captain Rejard Marfe.

COTABATO CITY - Policemen seized P600,000 worth of marijuana leaves in a rice sack and four plastic bags from two peddlers entrapped Sunday night in Marawi City.

The duo, Abdulrahman Casanguan Galawan, 25, and the 30-year-old Arham Benaning Zacaria, are now in the custody of the Marawi City Police Office.

They are to be prosecuted for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao --- Three soldiers were killed when heavily-armed men attacked an Army detachment in Barangay Magcawa in Al-Barka, Basilan on Thursday afternoon.

Initial reports reaching the headquarters here of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region identified the slain soldiers as Cpl. Repupunio, and Privates 1^st Class Pamplona and Kapoy of the18th Infantry Battalion.   

COTABATO CITY - Defense Secretary Jose Faustino, Jr. and Basilan Gov. Jim Salliman have agreed to cooperate in rehabilitating former Abu Sayyaf members who have returned to the fold of law.

More than 300 Abu Sayyaf members in Basilan have pledged allegiance to the government in batches in the past six years through the joint efforts of elected and traditional leaders in the province, the Army’s 101^st Infantry Brigade and the Basilan Provincial Police Office.

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao -Three villagers were killed while three others were wounded, among them a child, in a gun attack in Sumisip, Basilan before dawn Wednesday.

Reports reaching the headquarters here of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region identified two of the fatalities as Pajah Taalil and his daughter, Mardiya, a college student.

In an initial statement Wednesday, the Sumisip Municipal Police Station said a relative of the Taalils was also killed in the incident.

COTABATO CITY  – A gunman shot dead in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay on Tuesday morning a man who has just emerged from a court where his son is helping litigate a frustrated murder case as witness.

In an initial statement released at noontime Tuesday, the Ipil Municipal Police Station identified the victim as Jainuddin Baladji Alsre, who died on the spot from two bullet wounds in the head.

Local police probers have confirmed that Alsre and his son are witnesses to a frustrated murder case at the Regional Trial Court Branch 36 at the provincial capitol in Ipil.
