Grenade blast rocks yard of barangay exec in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY --- A grenade blast ripped through the residential compound of a barangay chairman in nearby Sultan Kudarat town in Maguindanao Sunday night, causing panic among villagers.

Guiaber Dalindingan, chairman of Barangay Crossing Simuay in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, is certain the bombing was politically-motivated, related to the May 9 elections in their municipality.

Local leaders said Guibar supported the candidacy of the now Sultan Kudarat mayor-elect Tucao Mastura and, in so doing, angered many of his constituents who favored a rival candidate.

Villagers displaced by partisan conflict in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY --- Hundreds of villagers in Barangay Dapiawan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan town abandoned their homes Thursday due to gunfights between two partisan Moro groups armed with rifles and grenade launchers. 

The Maguindanao provincial police and the Army’s 6th Infantry Division have dispatched personnel to Barangay Dapiawan to prevent a spillover of the hostilities to barangays nearby.

9 more NPAs in Sultan Kudarat surrender to Army

LEBAK, Sultan Kudarat - Nine members of the New People’s Army surrendered here Wednesday and pledged allegiance to the government.

The group belonged to the NPA’s self-styled West Daguma Front-Far South Mindanao Region, whose top leaders are mostly wanted by different courts in central Mindanao for heinous crimes.

Soldier, 5 Dawlah gunmen killed in Lanao Sur encounters

MARAWI CITY--- A soldier and five Dawlah Islamiya gunmen were killed while four others were wounded in gunfights yesterday in Butig, Lanao del Sur.

In a report Friday, the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade here identified the slain soldier as Corporal Rutenvic Jaralve of the 5th Infantry Battalion.

Another soldier, name withheld pending notification of family, was also reportedly wounded in yesterday’s clashes between 5th IB servicemen and Dawlah Islamiya members in Barangay Ragayan in Butig town in Lanao del Sur.

"A precedent for future victims of war, destruction," Int'l Alert PH on Marawi compensation act

COTABATO CITY - Civic organization leaders, NGOs and International Alert Philippines (IAP) on Thursday lauded the signing into law of a compensation package that the victims of Marawi Siege have been wanting.

Pres. Duterte has signed Republic Act 11696, or the Marawi Siege Compensation Act of 2022, last April 13, two days before lapsing into law and only made public on April 27.

In a statement, International Alert said the Marawi Compensation Act has practically established a precedent for future victims of war and destruction.

P50K reward offered for arrest of bus bomber

PARANG, Maguindanao --- The municipal government here on Tuesday offered P50,000 for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect in Sunday’s bombing of a bus here that hurt six passengers.

Parang Mayor Cahar Ibay, chairperson of the municipal peace and order council, told reporters Tuesday he will release the amount without question once the culprit is identified and arrested.

Police: Business rivalry possible motive in bus bombing

PARANG, Maguindanao - The perpetrators of Sunday’s bus bombing here planted two explosives in the vehicle but only one went off, hurting six passengers.

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao — Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, 6th Infantry Division commander, has condemned the Rural Transit Bus bomb attack in Parang, Maguindanao.

Major General Uy, also Joint Task Force Central commander, described the attack as "an act of cowardice and unprovoked aggression targeting innocent civilians in the middle of the observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan."
