Ex-Moro rebels get fishing boats, gears from BARMM

COTABATO CITY - The Bangsamoro government has provided a group of former Moro rebels now being reintegrated to society with essential support to boost their daily catch of freshwater fishes from the 220,000-hectare Liguasan Delta.


Agri damage, losses in Soccsksargen due to quake hit P7.25-M

MANILA – The total damage and losses to agriculture in the Soccsksargen region due to the recent 6.8-magnitude earthquake has reached PHP7.25 million as of Nov. 22, the Department of Agriculture (DA) reported Friday.

The quake, which struck on Nov. 17, affected 120 farmers and fisher folk, with the total volume of production loss estimated at 168 metric tons and 81 hectares of agricultural areas.

“The affected commodities include corn, high-value crops, livestock and poultry, and fisheries,” the DA said in a statement.


Local rice prices may drop to P36/kg this October: DA

MANILA – Retail prices of local rice are seen to drop to at least PHP36 per kilogram before the end of October, an official of the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Thursday.

“In retail, the price will be PHP36 to PHP38 before the end of the month. It’s because it’s harvest season and we have many produce,” DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban said in an interview on the sidelines of the opening of AgriLink, FoodLink & AquaLink 2023 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.


BARMM intensifies rice price cap monitoring

COTABATO CITY — The Bangsamoro Government started mobilizing price monitors in the region on Sept. 11 to intensify its effort to prevent price manipulators.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) along with the Bangsamoro Price Coordinating Council (BPCC) of the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT) conducted the price monitoring of the city’s major markets.
This is in line with Executive Order (EO) 39, s. 2023, which imposes mandated price ceilings on rice, issued by the Office of the President on Aug. 31, 2023.


Rice price ceilings take effect Sept. 5: Palace

MANILA – The implementation of the mandated price ceilings for rice will start on Sept. 5, Malacañang said Friday.

The clarification was made after Executive Order (EO) 39 stated that the price cap on regular and well-milled rice will take effect immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.


Upland rice farming, isinusulong ni dating DA Sec. Piñol

ISINUSULONG NI DATING Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol ang upland rice farming sa bansa, lalo na sa Mindanao bilang hakbang na matiyak ang sapat na pagkain kahit nagbabadya ang tagtuyot o El Nino.

Sa isang news conference sa Davao City, ipinresenta ni Piñol ang kanyang proposed upland farming na tinawag niyang “Kalahating Ektarya sa Bawat Pamilya."

Aniya, isinusulong ng programa ang paggamit ng hybrid at inbred rice seeds, pagsasaayos ng irrigation systems, at sapat na fertilizer supply mula DA bilang paghahanda sa posibleng rice shortage dahil sa El Nino.


Over 200 ducks mysteriously died in Koronadal

KORONADAL CITY  – More than 200 ducks have mysteriously died almost at the same time in a remote village here that made its owner suspect they were poisoned.

On Friday morning, Jose Gaje, owner of a duck farm in Barangay Sto Nino, said his caretaker told him the ducks were enjoying a mini=pond when suddenly die fell and died one after another on Thursday.

According to Gaje, his ducks were regularly wander in a rice fields where the “palay” were just harvested by farmers.


PBBM: Farm consolidation, mechanization to boost crop yield

KORONADAL CITY - Farm consolidation and mechanization are vital in improving the rice supply and lowering the production cost, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Wednesday.

This, as Marcos lauded the South Cotabato government for launching the Consolidated Rice Production and Mechanization Program, an initiative aimed at promoting the creation of an organized and efficient rice production and marketing system in the province.


BARMM, Poland Embassy set sights on agricultural investment for mutual growth

COTABATO CITY — In an effort to foster agricultural development, the Embassy of Poland, led by His Excellency Charge D' Affaires a.i. Mr. Jarosław Szczepankiewicz, met with the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) Mohammad Yacob on May 19.
