Zambo Norte cops mourn death of colleague in accident

COTABATO CITY--- The Zamboanga del Norte provincial police is mourning the demise of a policewoman from its ranks in a tragic highway mishap Thursday that left four companions dead.

The fatality, Patrolwoman Florilyn Balansag died on the spot when the patrol vehicle carrying her and four companions went wayward and hit a tree along a highway in Barangay Santo Niño in Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte.


Lawmen uproot, burn 125 marijuana plants in Sarangani

KORONADAL CITY - State agents uprooted and burned 125 marijuana shrubs in an anti-narcotics operation in Barangay Malabud in Malungon town in Sarangani Monday.

Naravy Duquiatan, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-12, said Tuesday marijuana propagator Reynante Ozano Buan was arrested in the operation, now clamped down in a detention facility of the Malungon Municipal Police Station.


6 NPAs surrender to Region 12 police

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- Six members of the New People’s Army, three of them collectors of “protection money” from hapless farmers, surrendered to the police yesterday.

Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, director of the Police Regional Office-12, said Friday the six NPAs have pledged allegiance to the government during a simple rite in Tampakan town in South Cotabato.

The group belonged to the NPA’s self-styled Guerilla Front 73-Far South Mindanao Region, whose leaders are facing high-profile criminal cases in different courts.


P900K worth of smuggled cigarettes seized in Sulu

COTABATO CITY --- The police seized P900,000 worth of undocumented imported cigarettes Tuesday in Indanan town in Sulu.

Major Edwin Sapa, chief of the Indanan Municipal Police Station, said Wednesday the contraband was found neatly piled near a small wharf in Barangay Buansa by patrolling policemen.

He said there were indications that the cigarettes in sealed boxes, said to have come in Indonesia, have just been unloaded from a small watercraft that berthed at the BF Wharf in Barangay Buansa in Indanan, Sulu.   


Missing vice mayor in Surigao del Sur found

COTABATO CITY --- The vice mayor of Tagbina, Surigao del Sur who was reported missing last weekend was found roaming in another town in the province by a police team before dawn Monday.

Tagbina Vice Mayor Antonio Adlao was immediately brought to the police station in Bunawan in Agusan del Sur province which is quite distant from his hometown and, there, provided with food and clothing by the team that rescued him.

His relatives and constituents reported to the police that he went missing on Saturday morning.


Mayoral aspirant in Surigao del Sur missing, later recovered by police

COTABATO CITY -- The police have launched an extensive search for the vice mayor of Tagbina town in Surigao del Sur who has been missing since Saturday.

Officials of the Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office said Monday mayoral candidate and incumbent Vice Mayor Antonio Adlao was last seen by friends and relatives on Saturday morning in his farm in Barangay Malixi in Tagbina.


Molester, killer of 5-year-old GenSan girl has 12 old rape cases

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- The now detained 50-year-old carpenter who sexually molested and killed a five-year-old girl here Saturday has 12 rape cases long pending in different courts.

Edmar Muyco Senador, arrested about three hours after he raped and killed a child in a secluded spot in Barangay Apopong here at about dusk Saturday, readily confessed his brutal offense to police probers.

The parents and siblings of the slain child told reporters they noticed the victim missing before nightfall Saturday.


2 dead, 8 hurt in Zamboanga-Sibugay highway mishap

COTABATO CITY --- Two died while eight others were badly hurt when the pick-truck carrying them turned-turtle in a stretch of a national highway in Naga town in Zamboanga Sibugay Sunday.

The fatalities, Pastra Jain, 47, and the 53-year-old Hashim Antol, were both declared, by attending physicians, as dead on arrival in a hospital where emergency responders rushed them for treatment.


Suspect sa chop-chop case sa Arakan, NoCot, huli sa Sarangani

KIDAPAWAN CITY - Magkapatid na suspek sa Arakan chopchop murder case nahuli na sa Banate, Sarangani kahapon.

Sa inisyal na pagsiyasat ng Radyo BIDA sa Arakan PNP, ay kinumpirma nito ang balitang nakarating sa Radyo BIDA mula sa isang source.

Nito lang Huwebes ng umaga nang matagpuan ang pugot na katawan ng 38 years old na si Berlie Rama sa kanyang tinutuluyang tahanan na tadtad ng saksak, labas ang lamang loob, habang nawawala ang pribadong parte ng kanyang katawan.


Lanao Norte radio commentator killed in knife attack

COTABATO CITY --- An attacker killed with a kitchen knife a radio commentator in Bacolod town in Lanao del Norte Thursday.

The cadaver of the 59-year-old Audrey Gaid Estrella of the 101.3 Grace Covenant FM in Bacolod, Lanao del Norte bore 15 stab wounds, one in the throat, indicating the brutality of the attacker.

In an initial report, the Bacolod Municipal Police Station said the victim, a widow, was found by relatives sprawled on the floor of their house in Purok 5 in the town proper of Bacolod.
