Attempt to smuggle game fowl to Indonesia from GenSan foiled

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- The Philippine Coast Guard foiled over the weekend an attempt by three Indonesians to transport 190 fighting cocks from Barangay Bawing here to Tahun, Indonesia.

Personnel of the PCG Station Eastern Sarangani immediately arrested Bura Wangka, 36, Zaidunin Makahiking, 38, and the 28-year-old Manan Bawimbing and seized the game fowl that they were to smuggle out using a small motorized boat.

Transport coop exec hurt in GenSan gun attack

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- A chairperson of a local transport cooperative was hurt in a gun attack today in Barangay Buayan here.

The 64-year-old Larry Barnuevo Villegas of the Rajah Buayan Transport Cooperative, who sustained a bullet wound in the leg, is now in a hospital. He is an official of BAYAN MUNA GenSan.

An initial police report said he was in their frontyard when a man on a motorcycle pulled over and shot him from a distance, hitting him in the leg.

The suspect immediately sped away.

Cops neutralize leader of motorcycle thieves in Sultan Kudarat

TACURONG CITY --- A man implicated in a number of motorcycle theft cases perished in a shootout with policemen over the weekend in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat, a regional police official said Tuesday.

Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, director of the Police Regional Office-12, said Lando Salompong Kalon died from gunshot wounds sustained in a gunfight with policemen in Barangay Didtaras in nearby Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat.

8 dead in Zambo del Norte Highway mishap

COTABATO CITY – Eight hitchhikers died in a vehicular accident Wednesday in Barangay Dicolom in Baliguian town in Zamboanga del Norte.

The incident was preceded, three days before, in a road mishap in Butuan City that left three van passengers dead and hurt eight others.

The Baliguian municipal police confirmed late Wednesday the death of eight people riding a Bonggo light truck that plunged into a deep side of the highway while on its way to Labason town in the same province to deliver its copra cargo.

Basilan Islamic preachers, provincial government strengthen ties

COTABATO CITY --- Muslim preachers in Basilan and Gov. Jim Salliman held Thursday a dialogue and agreed to continue cooperation in pushing forward their domestic peace and security programs.

Salliman’s administration has various programs that are attuned to the peace and development initiatives of the regional government of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

P374,000 worth shabu confiscated from seaman

KORONADAL CITY --- State agents seized P374,000 worth of shabu from a seaman who fell in an entrapment operation here Tuesday.

Naravy Duquiatan, director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, said Wednesday the suspect, Ryan Bayogos Ramos, is now detained, to be prosecuted for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Ramos, a transnational seaman allegedly peddling shabu in big volumes when out from work, was entrapped by PDEA-12 agents and personnel of the Koronadal City Police Tuesday in Barangay Carpenter Hill here.

Suspect in 2017 murder of `doctor to the barrio’ arrested

COTABATO CITY --- The police finally arrested Saturday the suspect in the 2017 murder in Lanao del Norte of a physician who served isolated impoverished areas in the province.

Mohammad Nabel Langi Banding, 39, who allegedly shot dead on March 1, 2017 Dreyfuss Perlas, a government “doctor to the barrio,’ in a gun attack in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte is now detained.

His arrest in Barangay Abaga in Lala town in Lanao del Norte was confirmed by the Police Regional Office-10.

Telecommunications technician Eric Daque is now detained, to be prosecuted for violation of Presidential Decree 1727 that outlawed malicious spreading of deceptive information such as false threats to set off an explosive or any similar deadly devices.

10 soldiers hurt in Basilan Army truck mishap

BASILAN - More than 10 membzers of the 17th Scout Ranger Company were hurt when the truck they were riding figured in a highway misha at 11 a.m. in Sitio Baroy, Lamitan City.

Initial report from Lamitan PNP, two Army truck loaded with scout rangers were heading to the outskirt of the city when the lead vehicle fell off a roadside drainage canal.

Imported cigarettes seized in Sarangani

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- The police seized 25 boxes of imported cigarettes intercepted in Maitum town in Sarangani while en route to somewhere in the province Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Alexander Tagum, director of the Police Regional Office-12, said Friday the contraband was in a van that policemen impounded when they found out that it carried Casablanca cigarettes, for delivery to somewhere in the municipality.
