BARMM placed under state of calamity due to massive floods

COTABATO CITY  – The chief minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Thursday declared state of calamity due to floods that hit Maguindanao, Cotabato City and the region’s Special Geographic Area (SGA) in Cotabato province.

The Proclamation No. 0003 was signed by BARMM Interim Chief Minister Ahod “Kagi Murad” Ebrahim on Aug. 18, 2022 in Cotabato City but only made public Thursday (today).

The state of calamity was effective August 18 and will last until October 31, the proclamation said.

Ex-terrorists to benefit from 7 Basilan irrigation projects

COTABATO CITY -- A senior official of the National Irrigation Administration and provincial leaders inaugurated Wednesday seven projects in Basilan, designed to boost productivity of farmers, among them hundreds of now reforming former Abu Sayyaf gunmen. 

Engineer Czar Sulaik, who is NIA’s deputy administrator for engineering and operation, Basilan Gov. Jim Salliman and representatives from the police and military together turned over one after another the new irrigation facilities to beneficiary-communities in separate symbolic rites.

MSSD-BARMM clarifies gov't educational assistance program

COTABATO CITY - Nagpalabas ng klaripikasyon ang BARMM Ministry of Social Services and Development o MSSD tungkol sa Educational Assistance Program ng DSWD national.

Sinabi ng MSSD na hindi nito saklaw ng isasagawang educational assistance ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Ang MSSD ay hindi kasama sa mga regional field offices ng DSWD, kundi isang hiwalay na ahensya ng gobyerno na bahagi po ng Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

MILF conducting Mindanao-wide consultation-series

COTABATO CITY – The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) leadership is currently making rounds of its camps, field forces and sympathizers for an engaging consultation-series.

Starting on August 14, the MILF consultation is being conducted in assemblies of dialogue within and outside the core territory of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Solon bats for more Muslim cemeteries in town, cities

MANILA – A lawmaker is pushing for proper and accessible burial grounds for Muslim Filipinos to preserve the sanctity of Islamic belief and culture in honoring the deceased.

Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman filed on Wednesday House Bill No. 3755, which seeks to require all local government units to allocate a portion of land, depending on the size of their respective Filipino Muslim populations, for the establishment of public cemeteries for Muslims. A copy of the bill was sent to the media on Thursday.

MILF area consultations continue in Lanao Norte, Sulu

COTABATO CITY - The second set of area consultations of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front were held yesterday in Camp Kura Kura, Lanao del Norte and Panamao in Sulu, BARMM Interior Minister Naguib Sinarimbo said today.

He said thousands attended in the camp of Kumander Bravo in Kura Kura where issues on the implementation of the peace agreement in areas outside of the current BARMM were raised.

In the island province of Sulu, MILF members gathered in Panamao, Sulu to express their continuing support to the leadership of the MILF under Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim.

Local officials call for ratification of law dividing Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY – Officials of Maguindanao have appealed to all registered voters to come out and vote on the Sept. 17 plebiscite that would divide the province into Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte.

Police said it has already established security plans to ensure that the political exercises would be peaceful and orderly.

“It is best for the future of the province if you come out and vote, whether yes or no, it is your right to decide,” Cyrus Torreña, Maguindanao provincial administrator, said in a radio interview Tuesday.

PBBM hailed for prioritizing Bangsamoro peace process

MANILA – Presidential Peace Adviser Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. has lauded President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for making the Bangsamoro peace process a "top priority."

This was after Marcos administered the oath of office to new members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), the interim government of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), at Malacañan Palace in Manila on Friday.

Galvez thanked Marcos for his resolve to pursue peace-building initiatives in the country.

“Doctor to the barrio” now BARMM parliament member

COTABATO CITY --- A physician, named one of Ten Outstanding Young Men of the World in late 2000 in Italy, is now a member of the 80-seat Bangsamoro parliament.

The “doctor to the barrio” Kadil Monera Sinolinding, Jr. was appointed member of the regional law-making group of the autonomous region by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

The international award he received in Italy in 2000 was among dozens of special citations for community service he got in line with his medical practice.  

Over 10,000 families displaced by Maguindanao floods

COTABATO CITY  – More than 10,000 families have been affected and displaced by the floods that hit all the villages of Datu Montawal and Pagalungan in Maguindanao on Tuesday, disaster officials today said.

The floods that inundated all the 11 barangays of Datu Montawal came after the Kabacan river overflowed due to heavy downpour in Bukidnon and North Cotabato.

Montawal, a town with population of over 37,300 per 2020 census, is situated beside the Kabacan river and near the Malitubog-Maridagao rivers.
