READI contingent to assist deportees from Malaysia

COTABATO CITY --- The Bangsamoro government dispatched Wednesday to Zamboanga City an emergency response team to assist thousands of Filipino deportees expected to arrive soon from Malaysia.

Malaysia is deporting no fewer than 5,000 undocumented Filipinos starting this week, according to reports last week by local newspapers and radio stations in the Zamboanga peninsula.

The team sent to Zamboanga City by the Bangsamoro government shall assist in the mandatory COVID-19 screening of the Filipinos returning from Malaysia via the Philippine southern backdoor.

4 soldiers killed in gunfight with policemen in Jolo

COTABATO CITY ---- Police agents killed Monday four gunmen who refused to have their identities checked while at a busy  thoroughfare in Jolo, capital of the hostile Sulu province. 

An initial report reaching the headquarters of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in nearby Parang town in Maguindanao said a team trailing the vehicle of the four men neutralized them immediately when they pulled out guns when asked to have their grey Mitsubishi Montero inspected for firearms and explosives.

Police confiscate materials for fishing explosives in Basilan operation

COTABATO CITY --- The police seized 200 kilos of ammonium nitrate and components for at least 500 fishing dynamites in an operation Sunday in the seaside Lantawan town in Basilan.

Brig. Gen. Manuel Abu, director of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, said Monday Lantawan municipal police personnel, led by Capt. Said Omar Ismael, found the components for fishing explosives in a hut on a beach in Barangay Matikang in Lantawan.

BARMM, MILF settle “rido” in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY  – “Impossible yet we made it possible.”

This was how Sec. Abdulraof Macacua, executive secretary of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) after he managed to let warring families in Maguindanao “smoke the pipe of peace” and let them forgive and forget.

Macacua, who carries the pseudonym “Sammy Gambar,” is the chief of staff of Bangasamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF), the armed wing of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).   

BARMM frontliners get biohazard protection supplies from UN 

COTABATO CITY --- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees donated Friday to the Bangsamoro government more than 30 boxes of biohazard protection supplies to boost regional COVID-19 containment efforts.

The supplies were turned over by emissaries of UNHCR’s representative to the Philippines, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, to Chief Minister Hadji Ahod Ebrahim of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, who is BARMM’s local government minister and spokesperson.

BTA approves Bill No. 46, defining the power of appointment in BARMM

COTABATO CITY — The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) approved a bill that will now define the power of appointment in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), during the parliament’s Second Regular Session held Thursday, June 25, 2020 in the city.

The BTA-Parliament Bill No. 46 entitled, “An act defining the power of appointment in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and for other purposes” was authored by the Government of the Day, and underwent a rigorous period of interpellation and amendment among the members of the parliament.

BARMM chief receives UNHCR anti-COVID donations

COTABATO CITY - While Tawi-Tawi maintains its Covid-19 free status, Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Balawag “Murad” Ebrahim is worried returning constituents from Malaysia could be unwitting virus carriers that could destroy the good standing of the province.

Ebrahim said there is a need of tangible preparation to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus from the incoming kababayans.

“The risk now is those returnees and deportees, they are possible carriers,” he said.

Education Minister Iqbal upholds ‘cease and desist order’ vs. provisional, temporary employees

COTABATO CITY - Minister Mohagher Iqbal of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) defended the ‘cease and desist’ order he issued against provisional and temporary employees of the Ministry.

The cease and desist order was contained in Memorandum Order No. 154 issued March 5 , 2020 and Memorandum Order No. 194-B dated April 30, 2020.

He stressed that a provisional or temporary appointment is good only for one year but the affected employees stayed with their positions for almost two decades, some over three decades. 

No recorded local transmission of COVID-19 in BARMM yesterday -MOH says today

COTABATO CITY  - The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region's Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported a total of 100 Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) confirmed cases in the region as of June 23, 2020.

Of the 100 cases, 52 are active, with 44 recoveries and 4 deaths.

Lanao del Sur province records 70 cases, 21 in Maguindanao, 6 in Basilan, 3 in Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi remains to be Covid-free.

Parliament Speaker calls for Bangsamoro to reflect amidst Covid-19 pandemic

COTABATO CITY — Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament Speaker Atty. Ali Pangalian M. Balindong has called on the Bangsamoro to reflect amidst the ongoing Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) global pandemic crisis.

In his ceremonial speech during opening of the Parliament’s second regular session Tuesday, June 16 held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex (SKCC), Balindong emphasized the Bangsamoro is still more fortunate as it face this pandemic compared to other areas of the country.
