2 NPAs yield to Army in SoCot

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – A grenade and several firearms were yielded by two communist terrorist members to the troops of 5th Special Forces Battalion (5th SFB) in Barangay Lambingi, Banga, South Cotabato on Monday.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Zandro Alvez, Battalion, 5SFBn commander, said the surrenderers were both 45 years old from the nearby Tboli town of South Cotabato who turnover one  Cal.30 M1 rifle, one cal .45 pistol and one hand grenade who were known Milisyang Bayan members of Guerilla Front MUSA (GF 73), Far South Mindanao Region.

Magsaysay, Davao del Sur, niyanig ng Magnitude 5.5 na lindol

COTABATO CITY - Niyanig ng magnitude 5.6 na lindol ang Magsaysay, Davao del Sur alas 4:23 ngayong hapon.

Walang iniulat na nasawi o nasaktan habang sinusulat ang balitang ito.

Ang pagyanig ay natukoy 11 kilometro sa hilaga ng Magsaysay, Davao del Sur at may lkalim na 6 na kilometro.  Ito ay tectonic in origin.

Bus nahulog sa bangin sa Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon

MALAYBALAY CITY -- Sugatan ang driver, conductor at 30 mga pasahero ng isng unit ng Rural Transit Bus matapos na ito ay mahulog sa gilid ng highway sa Sitio Mangima, Tankulam Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon alas 8 ngayong gabi.

Patungong Davao City ang bus mula Cagayan de Oro City nang maganap ang aksidente sa sigzag road ng lugar dahil sa madulas na kalsada dulot ng ulan, ayon kay Rogelio Busbus, isa sa mga pasahero.

Inaalam pa ng PNP kung may nasawi sa mga sugatan na agad dinala sa Bukidnon Provincial Hospital sa Manolo Fortich.

(UPDATE) Phivolcs: Magnitude 5.9 jolts mainland Mindanao

COTABATO CITY - A magnitude 5.9 hit mainland Mindanao at 2:25 p.m. today, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

It was tectonic in origin and was traced 31 km west of Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao and 59 km from Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.

No casualty was reported and aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said.

Ex-president FVR laid to rest at Libingan ng mga Bayani

MANILA – Former president Fidel V. Ramos' cremated remains were inurned at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City on Tuesday morning.

Ramos, the country's 12th president who served from 1992 to 1998, was accorded a state funeral with full military honors.

A private Mass was held at the Heritage Park in Taguig City before Ramos' inurnment at the LNMB.

There was also a funeral procession to the presidential grave site. Flowers were dropped during the funeral procession.

COTABATO CITY - Maguindanao provincial director of the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission na si Atty. Ariff Lao, nakaligtas matapos pagbabarilin ang kanilang sasakyan matapos lamang itong bumili ng burger sa Sinsuat Avenue, bandang 7pm kanina.

Sa initial report, dalawang lalaking sakay ng motorsiklo ang dumating at pinaputukan si Lao subalit ito ay hindi tinamaan.

Kinumpirma ni Mayor Bruce Matabalao ang nasabing pangyayari.

Si Atty. Lao ay kamag anak ng asawa ni Mayor Matabalao.

“Luckily, his wife was unharmed,” Mayor Matabalao said.

Magnitude 5.6 quake rocks mainland Mindanao

COTABATO CITY – A magnitude 5.8 earthquake rocks mainland Mindanao Tuesday tha revived the horrors of August 1976 tremor that hit the region.

The Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor that came at 1:24 p.m. was tectonic in origin and the epicenter was located 36 kilometers wet of Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.

It was generated by the Cotabato trench, the Phivolcs Cotabato said in a statement.

FVR dies at 94

MANILA – Former president Fidel V. Ramos has died at the age of 94.

Ramos’ family has yet to release a statement as of posting time.

The Office of the Press Secretary expressed condolences to the family of Ramos, the country’s 12 Chief Executive from 1992 to 1998.

Police destroy 3-hectare Lanao del Sur marijuana farm

COTABATO CITY - Authorities destroyed three hectares of Marijuana plants in Maguing town in Lanao del Sur Thursday.

Col. Jibin Boncayao, Lanao del Sur provincial police director, said Friday their anti-narcotics agents placed at no less than P12 million the value of the marijuana shrubs in a three-hectare farm in Barangay Bato-Bato, Maguing that police personnel uprooted and burned.

The raiding team also found five assault rifles in an abandoned makeshift outpost close to the marijuana farm.

BREAKING: Ama ni Dr. Yumol, patay sa pamamaril sa Lamitan City
