MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday appointed lawyer Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. as Secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND) and Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa as Secretary of the Department of Health (DOH).

The appointments of Teodoro and Herbosa were announced after President Marcos met with Teodoro and DND Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez, and Herbosa and Health Undersecretary Ma. Rosario Vergeire in separate meetings in Malacañang on Monday afternoon.

COTABATO CITY -- Some 50 grade school pupils in an upland town in Maguindanao del Norte were rushed to a hospital Wednesday due exposure to a potent insecticide, local officials said.

The victims are pupils of Mirab Elementary School in Barangay Mirab in Upi town, who first complained of headache and nausea after inhaling what responding police probers and municipal health service personnel believe could be pesticide mist that contaminated the air, from a corn farm nearby.

CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao Norte  – Four persons, including a police officer, were injured when two warring Moro gunmen traded shots in the town center of Malabang in Lanao del Sur Tuesday night.

In his report to Lanao del Sur police provincial office, Capt. Jerome Baliuag, deputy chief of Malabang municipal police station, said the firefight erupted at about 9 p.m. amid light rains, sending civilians to seek cover within their homes.

“The fighting ended at about 10:05 p.m. or more than an hour later,” Baliuag said.

MANILA - Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte leaders today take oath of office before President Ferdinand Marcos, ending exchanges of positions and stance about the governorship of newly created provinces.

Maguindanao del Norte Gov. Abduraof Macacua and Vice Governor Bai Ainee Sinsuat took their oath before the President in Malcanang Friday afternoon. Earier, Gov. Bai Mariam Mangudadatu and Vice Gov. Nathaniel Midtimbang also took oath of office.

No other details were relased by Malacanang press office about the event. 

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday joined the Muslim devout in celebrating Eid al-Fitr, saying respect and understanding make the Filipino culture unique.

"Respect and understanding among different faiths are characteristic features of the uniqueness of Filipino culture," the PNP statement said.
