North Cotabato village chair, escort die in ambush

PIKIT, North Cotabato – Unidentified
gunmen shot dead a village chair and his escort in a remote village here
Thursday afternoon, police said.

Chairperson Dats Simon, villa chair of Barangay
Bulol, Pikit and his escort Akmad Bantas, died instantly from multiple gunshot
wounds, according to Senior Insp. Sindatu Karim.

Karim told DXND Radyo Bida Koronadalsaid Simon was driving his Honda motorbike
with Bantas heading toward Barangay Bulol when ambushed along a dirt road by
five gunmen in Barangay Gli-Gli at 3 p.m.

DATU SALIBO, Maguindanao -- Close to 12,000 individuals have been displaced by floods in Maguindanao as a result of torrential rain brought about by Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone the past week, disaster officials today said. The Office of Civil Defense and the Humanitarian Emergency Action and Response Team (HEART) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), said nine towns of Maguindanao were severely affected but no displacement of locals.

KORONADAL CITY - A highway in Banga, South Cotabato known as accident prone has claimed another life after two motorcycles collided head on Friday night, authorities said. Killed due to head and body injuries was Julius Aspa, 43, resident of Banga while his back rider, Christopher Asong, 27 was seriously wounded. Aspa was driving his Honda RS 125 motorbike along the highway in Barangay Liwanay when his bike collided head on with another motorbike driven by Joey de Guira, 25 of Barangay Kusan, also in Banga.

COTABATO CITY - The Cotabato City governmentsuspended classes Wednesday in elementary and secondary schools, both in public and private due to inclement weather.Lawyer Cynthia Guiani Sayadi, Cotabato City administrator, in a text message to DXMS Radyo Bida,announced the suspension of classes as early as 5 a.m.The city government also suspended classes Tuesday afternoon for elementary and high school due to day-long rain over the city and its environs.
