Girl dies as heavy downpour, strong winds hit Lebak

LEBAK, Sultan Kudarat - An 13 year-old girl was killed when a fallen coconut tree hit him at the height of heavy downpour coupled by strong winds early Friday, a disaster official said.Myla Canete, Lebak chair of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), identified the victim as Gina Benito, resident of Barangay Kinudalan, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.Canete said Benito, a grade 8 pupil, was inside her home when a coconut tree toppled by strong winds fell on her house at 5 a.m.Canete said the coastal village of Tibpuan was also flood due to heavy down pour which worsen

36 die as board capsizes off Ormoc City

ORMOC CITY (PNA) – Thirty-six persons were confirmed dead and 21 others went missing after a passenger vessel capsized off the water of Ormoc past noon on Thursday.M/V Nirvana, with about 180 passengers, was making a maneuver just 800 meters away from the Ormoc port when rough seas broke its outrigger and caused the vessel to flip over, according to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Ormoc District Commander Pedro Tinampay.The PCG Ormoc station reported that 129 passengers have been rescued. Some were brought to different hospitals in Ormoc.About 21 passengers remained missing as of 3:30 p.m.
