IRRI trains DAF-ARMM staff on modern farming techniques

South Cotabato gov explains non declaration of calamity despite drought

KORONADAL CITY - South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Fuentes today explained why the provincial government did not push for the declaration of state of calamity due to the effects of dry spell.Speaking over DXOM-AM Radyo Bida Koronadal, Fuentes said the provincial government has enough funds to cushion the impact of the dry spell to farmers and the agriculture sector.Only Koronadal City and the towns of T'boli and Surallah have passed resolutions putting their respective local governments under state of calamity.

Pikit council places town under state of calamity

PIKIT, North Cotabato -The local government of Pikit in North Cotabato is set to release a portion of its Quick Response Fund after the municipal council approved the recommendation of the town’s disaster risk reduction and management council (DRRMC) to place the town under ‘state of calamity’. Tarhata Kalantongan, municipal DRRMC officer, said the drought, which hit the town since February, has destroyed some P71 million worth of crops and livestock. The DRRM’s recommendation to place Pikit under state of calamity was submitted to the Sangguniang Bayan on April 15.

KORONADAL CITY - The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) has recommended the declaration of state of calamity here as the dry spell continued drying up rice and corn fields.The recommendation came after a meeting of CDRRMC members, according to city agriculture officer Emelita Miguel.Earlier, four villages have placed its jurisdiction under state of calamity due to limited water supply for agricultural lands. Crop damages due to drought in N. Cotabato hits almost P600-M

COTABATO CITY -- The crop damages due to drought in North Cotabato has risen to almost
P600 million as the province is yet to experience heavy downpour since January,
agriculture officials said.Engr. Eliseo
