(UPDATE) 8 hurt in Cotabato City and North Cotabato blasts
COTABATO CITY -- Two separate grenade attacks in Cotabato City and Kabacan, North Cotabato on Saturday nightleft eight persons injured, including two soldiers and two minors, police said.Two men riding tandem on a motorbike tossed a hand grenade near a public market of Kabacan, North Cotabato, leaving five persons injured, police said.About an hour later, another grenade blast hit Cotabato City, wounding two soldiers of the Army Special Forces.Supt. Bernard Tayong, North Cotabato police chief, said the Kabacan explosion occurred at about 6:30 p.m.It injured Johainna Pops Alon, 17Berlie Baluyot, 46 Rosalie Parenas, 36 John Clark Opena, :13 Gerardo Moya, 48.Tayong said the blast occurred at the corner of Rizal Avenue and Malvar Street which leads to the town public market.Tayong said police are still determining the motive and identities of the attackers.The victims who sustained body and leg injuries were rushed to various hospitals in Kabacan. Saturdays's grenade attack came a day before a grenade was lobbed near a gas station in Barangay Kayaga leaving a boy wounded.In Cotabato City, three persons were hurt, including two soldiers, when two men riding on a motorbike lobbed a hand grenade at a parked cargo truck along Sinsuat Avenuecorner Rosales Street at 7:30 p.m.Wounded were
PFC Romer Agustin, 27 and PFC Noel Ganab, 28, both of the Army Special Forces
Battalion and student Mohaimen Biron, 21, who was passing at the time of the
blast.
Police said
the explosion also damaged two cargo trucks parked nearby and a passing
vehicle.
