Same sex marriage in PH remains illegal
KORONADAL CITY - Same sex marriage is still unlikely to be legalize in the country, a Koronadal executive judge said.Executive Judge Lorenzo Balo of Regional Trial Court Branch 24 said the country's family code prohibits same sex marriage.Allowing same sex marriage requres Constitutional Change which is unlikely to happen within the current administration.The union of same sex individuals has been in the news following a historic Supreme Court decision in the United States allowing such marriage in all its 50 states.Balo said aside from the fact that same sex marriage not within the Philippine Constitution, the Philippine Catholic Church has been against it.He opined that same sex union was allowed in the US because of the American's way of life and culture.The judge said same sex marriage done in the US will remain illegal in the Philippines. They may be legal in the US or other countries where same sex marriage is allowed, they are still bounded by Philippine laws which prohibits same sex union, Balo told DXOM-AM Radyo Bida.
