Lechon takes center stage in Koronadal founding anniv and Negosyo Festival

KORONADAL CITY - The Lechon (roasted pig) has been a staple in every celebration or fiesta in the Philippines. And Koronadal City, the seat of Region 12, has joined the bandwagon of other places in the country that has their own version of showcasing these iconic and celebrated dish.
An array of lechon dishes welcomed guests and visitors who came to celebrate the city’s 18th Charter Anniversary and 8th Negosyo Festival in October 8.
Coinciding with the celebration is the Lechon Festival, now on its 7th year participated by 26 out 27 barangays and 7 commercial lechoneros in Koronadal.
Each lechon was showcased in festive decorated booth that were styled with the theme Green Environment , picture perfect for selfies and groufies. The air was filled with excitement and aroma of garlic, pepper, laurel leaves and other ingredients everytime a lechon was sliced for the judges and for the public to taste. People who trooped in the city’s Rizal Park availed the the P280.00 per kilo drop price of lechon.
Stephanie Joy Norico, a local lechonero says, that the festival is a perfect venue for them to showcased their products despite the increase in prices of live pigs.
Norico said, Prices of lechon in Koronadal are expected to increase more because of its high demand during the holiday season.
Three winners were chosen by the jury for the barangay category P7,000 prize was given to Barangay Morales, for bagging the 1st Place and additional P1,500 for Best in Presentation. Second place was Zone 2 with P3,000 cash prize, and Zone 3 with P2,000.
The same amount of prizes were awarded to the winners in commercial category with Randy’s Lechan Haus bagging the top prize and Best in Presentation.Second place was Junjun Kapid Lechon Haus and third was Intrepido Lechon Haus.
The local government of Koronadal is spearheading the annual Lechon Festival to lure more tourist and promote the local roasted pig products.
