Kabacan Village officialand 3 kids die of measles
KABACAN, North
Cotabato (Sept. 11/NDBC) — Measles have claimed the lives of at least three
children in a remote village here, a village official today said.
Corazon
Antonio, village chair of Pisan, Kabacan, North Cotabato, said the fatalities
were from two separate sitios (sub-villages).
Two of whom were identified as Angel Heart Adim and her sister Precious,
both residents of Purok Cueva and a still unidentified child from Purok Kalimudan
of Barangay Pisan, Kabacan.
Antonio said
the victims were brought to the hospital but expired due to complications while
getting medical attention.
We are not
sure if these children have given anti-measles vaccines since they are members
of the indigenous tribes,” Antonio said, adding that the victims showed some
symptoms of measles before they were rushed to a medical facility.
At least 30
suspected cases of measles were also documented in their villages, Antonio
said.
Following the
incident, Antonio urged villagers to avail of free anti-polio and measles
vaccinations in the village health center.
Honey Joy
Cabellon, Kabacan town epidemiology surveillance coordinator, said measles
cases were reported in Pisan but uncertain if it causes the death of three
children.
She appealed
to parents whose children aged 0-59 months old to have them avail of three
vaccines for measles and polio. (NDBC)
