COTABATO CITY – A man is now in critical condition at a government hospital here after
he was hit by a stray bullet at the height of Eid’l Fitr celebration Thursday
night, police said today.

Interviewed by DXMS Radyo Bida,Senior Supt. Rex Anongos, Cotabato City police director,
said Rommel Abdul Rashad, 36, of Barangay Rosary Heights Mother, was resting in
his house at 8:40 p.m. when a bullet landed on the roof of his house and pierce
on his head.

Anongos said the bullet that hit Rashad was from a
cal. 45 pistol fired from nowhere during the revelry ending the fasting month.

The incident occurred despite repeated appeals by the
city police for gun owners not to fire guns in welcoming Eid’l Fitr.

It was a very sad incident,” Anongos said, adding
that nowhere in the Qur’an verses that allows firing of guns in welcoming the
end of Ramadhan.

Rashad will be moved to Davao City for further
medical treatment due to his serious wounds.

He just arrived home from Mosque nearby and seated in
the balcony when the bullet landed on his head,” Marilou, Rashad’s sister in
law, said. I was dismayed that there
are people who fired guns although they knew it was illegal.”

Gun burst reverberated in Cotabato City and
Maguindanao the moment the crescent moon was sighted that signalled the end of
fasting month. An Army officer said it
only showed the proliferation of guns in the city and its surroundings.

Anongos admitted most of the gun fire emanated from
the towns surrounding Cotabato City.

A 25-year-old man from Talitay, Maguindanao was also
rushed to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center due to stay bullet injury he
sustained on his face.

His face has swollen after a bullet from cal. 45
pistol landed on the side of his face. (Ferdinandh Cabrera)
