Marines to help secure polling sites in Maguindanao

MAGUINDANAO --- A contingent from the Philippine Marine Corps will help Army and police units secure polling sites in this province on Monday.

Major Gen. Cirilito Sobejana of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division told reporters Sunday among those they are to guard tightly are Datu Odin Sinsuat, Sultan Mastura and Sultan Kudarat towns in the first district of Maguindanao.

He said a composite group from the 1st Marine Brigade and the 2nd Marine Battalion shall help the Commission on Elections oversee the conduct of Monday’s polling in Datu Odin Sinsuat.

Get rid of corrupt politicians, bishop urges voters

People should not expect change if they will continue to vote for corrupt politicians, a Catholic bishop said.

Bishop Francisco De Leon of Antipolo said corruption is still a big problem in the country because corrupt politicians keep getting elected.

“If we keep voting candidates who are known to be corrupt, don’t expect that our lives will improve,” De Leon said.

The prelate was speaking in his homily during Mass to celebrate the solemnity of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage at the Antipolo Cathedral on Tuesday.

CBCP keeps nonpartisan stance, urges ‘wise vote’

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has clarified they will leave partisan politics to the lay people.

Archbishop Romulo Valles, CBCP President, particularly refuted reports that they endorsed a number of senatorial candidates.

“The CBCP did not make any such endorsement,” Valles said. “Bishops and priests are not allowed to do that. That is clearly partisan politics.”

“The CBCP continues to appeal to all Filipinos: Vote wisely in the coming elections. Let us continue to pray for a peaceful, credible and honest elections,” he said.

CORDS for Region 12 meets Army, PNP to ensure peaceful polls

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Agriculture Sec. Emmanuel Piñol, President Duterte’s Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Region 12 met with Saturday with police and military officials and relayed to them the President’s marching orders for May 13 polls.

“I relayed to them the directive President Rody Duterte to address vote buying and political terrorism so the people will be able to freely choose their leaders,” Piñol said in a statement after meeting with election stakeholders here.

Authorities seek public support against poll anomalies

COTABATO CITY --- Security officials on Saturday urged voters to help gather video recordings of people buying votes on Monday for them to be prosecuted for the offense.

Tension among rival political camps in central Mindanao and in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has gone fever pitch, escalated by accusations of vote-buying being spread through social media.

Bigas nakaimbak sa barangay hall ng Koronadal, pinigil ng Comelec

KORONADAL CITY - Agad na umaksyon ang Commission on Election (Comelec), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) at local police sa report ng isang concerned citizen na may mga sako ng bigas na nakaimbak sa Barangay Hall ng Barangay Carpenter Hill.

Ayon kay Atty. Micheal Ignes, Koronadal City election officer, napagkasunduan ng Comelec, DILG at PNP na i-hold na muna ang mga bigas hanggang May 20 para hindi umano magamit sa election sa May 13, 2019.

Sinabi ni Ignes na base sa mga residente na pinapa-utang umano ang mga bigas.

Thousands of cops to guard Region 12 polling sites

GENERAL SANTOS CITY --- The Police Regional Office-12 will mobilize 9,370 personnel to secure polling sites in central Mindanao on May 13.

Lt. Col. Aldrin Gonzalez, spokesman of PRO-12, said Friday they are now mobilizing their units in preparation for the upcoming electoral exercise.

The PRO-12 covers the cities of General Santos, Tacurong, Koronadal and Kidapawan, and the provinces of Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato, where there are certain clans that are locked in deep-seated political squabbles.
