DA 12 honors Regional Gawad Saka awardees

KORONADAL CITY - The Department of Agriculture in Soccksargen has recognized the 12 regional winners of the 2019 Gawad Saka Search during awarding ceremony held in Paraiso Verde Resort and Waterpark in this city Wednesday.
They were Jesus Horlador as outstanding rice farmer and Bienvenido Nebres as outstanding fisherfolk, both from Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.
Three of the awardee were from North Cotabato.
Rogelio Genosas of Kidapawan City was hailed as outstanding high value crops farmer, Herwin Galinato of Antipas was outstanding young farmer, Aldrin Cantila of Philippine Rice Institute in Midsayap was outstanding agricultural researcher and Dr. Onofre Corpuz, a professor of Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology in Arakan was outstanding agricultural scientist.
The outstanding organic agriculture farmer award was handed over to Renato dela Cruz of Koronadal City.
Regional winners in individual category received P50,000 each.
For the group category, Motril family was recognized as outstanding farm family while Kablon Farm Foods Corporatioon was outstanding agricultural entrepreneur both from Tupi, South Cotabato.
The Gensan Food Terminal in General Santos City bagged the outstanding barangay food terminal award while Sultan Kudarat Provincial Agriculture and Fishery Council (PAFC) of the Sultan Kudarat province was awarded with outstanding agriculture and fishery council award.
Winners in the group category received P75,000 each.
Milagros Casis, DA 12 regional executive director, said eight of the 12 winners were elevated as national contenders.
The Gawad Saka search is an annual award program of DA that aims to recognize the achievements of local farmers, fisherfolk, and farming organizations.
