Former champions in NCMF's Qur'an reading contests win anew

QUEZON CITY – Former
champions in the National Commission Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) Qur’an reading
contests have emerged as this year’s winners in male and female categories of 43rd
National Qur’an Reading Contests (NQRC) here.

Both winners are
now holders of three titles each.

Ustadz Nu’man
M. Pimbayabaya, 2013 and 2015 NQRC champion in male category while Ustadza
Rahima P. Amerol, 2014 and 2015 champion for female category, were declared
this year’s NQRC contest champions, respectively.

Last year’s champion
in male category, Ustadz Muhammad Nadhir Asgar Jr won third place this year and
Ustadz Mohamiden B. Umpong won the second prize.

In female
category this year, Ustadza Jamila M. Saraca and Ustadza Raihana G. Ambangala,
were second and third place winners, respectively.

Thirty-six
Quran readers competed in Sunday’s national competition held at University of
the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) Bahay ng Alumni inside the UP campus in
Quezon City.

Lawyer Laman Piang,
director of NCMF Bureau of Muslim Cultural Affairs, said the annual Qur’an
reading contest was themed Qur’anic Injunctions on Being Truthful as Basis of
One’s Dignity and Honor, was participated by 18 male and 18 male contestants
from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

He said this
year’s batch of competitors were experts in their own fields have been declared
winners in the municipal, provincial and regional reading contests.

Rodrigo Duterte, in his message to the participantsm saidand May this event be
an opportune time to listen and take to heart the melodic passages of the
teachings of Prophet Muhammad and to fortify your faith in Allah.

May we see in
the Qur’an readers’ skills the Filipino’s deep and fervent piety as well as our
commitment to bring about lasting peace, harmony and stability in our nation,
he added.

NCMF Sec.
Yasmin Busran Lao said reading of the Qur’an is not limited to remembrance of
the words of Allah (swt) but more about reading to guide us in our daily
life.

May this
event be successful and continue to be a venue for Muslim sectors to open
spaces for discussing virtues of perseverance, wisdom and unity to promote the
values of Islam such as justice and service to God Almighty, she added.
