KIDAPAWAN CITY – Four of the 23 members of the Kidapawan City PNP will undergo additional training on precision firing and close quarter combat after they failed ‘miserably’ in the shooting proficiency tests on Sunday.
Results showed that Police Officers Gumaga, Munoz, Querol, and Bobis got zero in two testsand precision firing and close quarter battle (CQB) shooting.
City Mayor Joseph Evangelista said if these cops will again fail in the succeeding tests after the training it is time to recommend their transfer to different areas of assignments.
It was Evangelista who ordered the shooting proficiency tests among members of the local police to check how well do they perform in basic gun safety handling and marksmanship or their skills in using their firearms, such as rifles or pistols.
The city government has partnered with the Mount Apo Practical Shooters Association (MAPSA) in assessing the shooting skills of the policemen.
Meantime, the city cops that topped the proficiency tests were Police Officers Eric John Yamuta, William Jumawan, Rodolfo Geverola, Mario dela Cruz Manzano, and Newton Fajardo of the K-9 unit.
The next batch of the policemen will undergo the same tests on August 30.

The mayor said whoever topped the tests will undergo advance training on marksmanship, CQB, and squad tactics in urban terrain.
He stressed these men will be part of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, a specialized tactical teams or an elite force within the Kidapawan City PNP.
At present, the city PNP has several high-powered firearms, including sniper rifles, which they intend to use during high-risk” events like hostage and barricade situations, high risk arrests and assaults of armed and dangerous subjects, counter-terrorism, and specialized sniper operations. This as the city government is also preparing for the deployment of 88-member of the Special CAFGU Active Auxiliary (SCAA), which is tasked to do ‘multi-tasks’, which include basic First Aid, traffic enforcement, and ‘counter-insurgency’.
Evangelista said the Department of National Defense has yet to approve the plan, which is vital to the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the city government and the 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army. Once the plan is approved, we will start recruiting at least 88 members to become Special CAFGU auxiliaries,” he said.
