Tacurong cops eye land dispute in BHW murder
TACURONG CITY -Authorities hinted deep-seated land conflict as behind the killing on Monday of a 60-year old barangay health worker here. Supet. Junny Buenacosa, city police director, said although there are other angles being studied in the killing of Josie Layson Cabellaje, land conflict was the closest. She owned wide hectares of land in her village. Police said that Cabellaje, a health worker in Barangay Baras, was a ‘person of good character’ and thus, none among those she worked with bears grudges against her. Also, witnesses told investigating policemen that the victim was very active as BHW. Police is still gathering additional evidences to identify the mastermind in the killing. Cabellaje has just disembarked from a tricycle in front of a food chain along the national highwayhere at past 1 p.m.when a still unidentified gunman shot her twice on her head and back. Shevictim died on the spot. Authorities recovered from the crime scene slugs from a caliber 45 pistol, which they believed were used in executing the victim. Buenacosa said they have yet to get copy of a recording from a close circuit television placed near the crime scene to determine the identity of the killer. The suspect was wearing a bull cap and after hitting his target fled to the other side of the road using a motorcycle as a get-away vehicle.
