South Cotabato declared under state of calamity
KORONADAL CITY - The South Cotabato provincial council has approved a resolution putting the entire province under state of calamity as a result of last month flash floods that affected at least seven municipalities.Provincial Board Member Agustin Demaala said the provincial council has favored the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reducation and Management Council (PDRRMC)to place the province in state of calamity due to floods that destroyed infrastructure and damaged agricultural products.Earlier, the city of Koronadal and the towns of Tantangan and Tupi declared state of calamity.Mila Lorca, head of South Cotabato PDRRMC, said the declaration would empower the provincial government to seek help from national government to rehabilitate affected areas and the repair of Concepcion and Namnama bridges.The flash floods destroyed P64 million worth of crops and infrastructure.
