KORONADAL CITY - A police official in South Cotabato has recommended the renaming of the province to Allah Valley province. The reason, according to Senior Supt. Franklin Alvero, South Cotabato police director, is to erase the negative impression the word Cotabato implies. He said the term Cotabato is associated with crimes and violence, thus, renaming it to Allah Valley province would remove the stigma and promote tourism.Alvero forwarded his recommendations to South Cotabato Gov. Daisy Avance Fuentes and Rep. Ferdinand Hernandez.Another reason he cited was the travel advisory from the US embassy in Manilathat named South Cotabato as among the areas in southern Philippines that its citizens should avoid due to terrorism and risks of getting kidnapped.
