Councilor in troubled Maguindanao town shot dead

MAGUINDANAO --- Gunmen on motorcycle shot dead a municipal councilor in an attack Wednesday in Datu Anggal town in Maguindanao.The fatality, Guialuson Guimal Angen, 54, was riding his motorcycle en route to Datu Odin Sinsuat town from Talitay, Maguindanao when two bikers trailing behind overtook, blocked his route and shot him with .45 caliber pistols.Angen, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Talitay, died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds.Senior Supt. Agustin Tello, Maguindanao police director, said the gunmen hurriedly escaped using their motorcycles after the attack, leaving Angen sprawled on the stretch of the Datu Anggal-Datu Odin Sinsuat Highway where he was attacked.Responding police investigators recovered from the scene six spent .45 caliber shells.Tello said investigators are still trying to identify the culprits and their motive for killing Angen.Tello said either an old grudge, or politics could have led to the murder of Angen.Talitay, touted in the past as shabu capital of Maguindanao, is a politically-troubled municipality.The mayor of Talitay, Montassir Sabal, has been hiding since last year after policemen and soldiers found shabu and assaultrifles in his house there in an anti-narcotics operation prompted by tips from his constituents.Sabal, who eluded arrest, is included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of politicians engaged in large-scale trafficking of shabu.
