Catholic priest says Filipinos will be inspired by Pia Wurtzbach's Miss Universe win
MANILA -- A Catholic priest has said that Filipinos, especially those affected by typhoon Nona, will be inspired by the victory of Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, who was crowned Miss Universe 2015 on Monday.Fr. Jerome Secillano, executive secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines-Public Affairs Committee (CBCP-PAC), said that Filipinos should be proud of what Wurtzbach has achieved. Pia Wurtzbach’s feat is something that we should be proud of. As our countrymen suffer from the onslaught of typhoon 'Nona,' let her win be an inspiration and let her message be a rallying point for everyone that beauty is nothing without a heart!” he said.Secillano added that the mistake made by the pageant’s host, Steve Harvey, announcing the wrong winner was a blunder and should be taken as it is. It was a mistake so we take it as it is. It can't take away the fact what the judges have chosen. Miss Philippines (Pia Wurtzbach) is the new Miss Universe,” he said. The Filipino beauty queen defeated 80 other hopefuls for the prestigious crown. She is the third Filipina to win the Miss Universe title. The other two are Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1969, and Margie Moran, Miss Universe 1973.
