Bonsai Art expo highlights National Crime Prevention Week in Region 12

KORONADAL CITY - Police officers in region 12 showcased their artistry and creativity during the 1st Bonsai Art Expo (BAE) of the Police Regional Office 12.
The activity was spearheaded by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) 12 as part of the 24th National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) Celebration with the theme, Mamamayan, Sama-Samang Makialam, Upang Krimen at Korupsyon ay Hadlangan.
The celebration aims to promote peace and order by strengthening the collaboration and cooperation of the police and the community.
It was participated by 47 Bonsai growers in SOCCKSARGEN, 13 of them were police officers, two from the Bureau of Jail Mangement and Penology and the rest were Non-PNP personnel.
Four of the five gold awardees were police officers from various parts of the region who proved their right-brain skills in the art of Bonsai growing.They are PO1 Joi Duhaylungsod, PO3 Pepito Balmores,and PO3 and SPO3 Fernando Caniban Jr.
Another Gold awardee, PO3 Jeinision,Tobias said that Bonsai making entails a lot of work and dedication.
Bonsai making is about the intrinsic beauty of the tree, it’s a long a process and for somebody to be a successful Bonsai artist, he/she must have a lot of patience, Tobias told Radyo Bida Koronadal.
It will usually take three weeks for a Bonsai to start growing and up to five years to mature.
Aries Felipe is the only Non-PNP personnel who got the gold award.
Napolcom Commissioner Felizardo Serapio, who graced the event, stressed the benefits of Bonsai making among the PNP personnel.
In Bonsai making you need patience, but what is important here is you develop critical thinking, that is what we call innovation, significant in police job, Serapio stressed.
Serapio, a Bonsai enthusiast believes that Bonsai making is also the PNP’s way of reaching out the the community.
He said We like to establish that policeman is not an ordinary link, policeman must be the strongest link of the community and Bonsai making is their way of immersion to the community.
