15 loose firearms surrendered in Maguindanao
CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – The untiring support of the local chief executives in Maguindanao on the 6th Infantry Division'scampaign against loose firearms are continuing to progress as more firearms were surrendered Fridaymorning (March 2) in Datu Unsay, Maguindanao. About 15 high and low-powered firearms with magazines and ammunition were surrendered by the local residents of Barangays Meta, Maitumaig, Pananget, Macalag, Tuntungan and Bulayan, all of Datu Unsay to Brigadier General Diosdado C. Carreon, 601st Infantry Brigade commander through town officials of Datu Unsay headed by Hon. Bai Reshal S. Ampatuan.The turn over rites was heldat municipal hall of Datu Unsay.Surrendered were one M-16 A1 rifle, three M1 Garand rifles, four homemade 12 gauge shotgun, two homemade shotgun (converted), two caliber 45, one caliber 9 millimeter pistol and two Uzi submachine gun.Carreon said it was the product of continuous collaboration of government forces with the local chief executives and barangay officials in the implementation of martial law and the campaign against loose firearms.Last February 27, residents of the municipalities of Buldon, Parang, Matanaog and Barira in Maguindanao also surrendered a total of 88 high and low powered loose firearms.Major General Arnel B Dela Vega, 6th ID commander, lauded the support extended by the local officials who went out of their way to support the disarmament program.He appreciated the gesture of civilians who owned unlicensed guns by voluntarily turning over their rifles and other war materials.
