Basilan hosting MPBL basketball matches
COTABATO CITY --- All is set for the November 16 commencement of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) matches in Basilan, meant to show that there is peace now in the island province.
The basketball games will involve teams from different regions in the country.
In a statement Wednesday, the office of Gov. Jim Salliman said security measures are now in place to ensure the safety of the event.
Provincial officials and representatives from the police and the military have tapped the help of the local government units in Basilan’s adjoining Lamitan and Isabela cities and in the 11 towns nearby to help push the activity forward.
Salliman and Basilan’s congressional representative, the Deputy Speaker Mujiv Hataman, are in the forefront of the basketball games, organized to prove to outsiders that the island province is now rising from conflicts that stymied its economic growth.
Basilan is now touted as the new investment frontier in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
