1 killed, 3 hurt in Midsayap shooting

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato  – A carpenter was killed while his three companions were injured when two gunmen opened fire on them while in drinking session in Barangay Salunayan Wednesday night.

Police Master Sgt. Rene Jay D. Flores, of Midsayap Municipal Police Office and investigator on case, identified the slain carpenter as Ronald Mallari, 44, a resident of Barangay Salunayan.

Injured were Marius Dondon Hernane, 45, Mike Casildo Gumayao, 64, both construction workers and Michael John dela Cruz Gumayao, 36, driver, all residents of Barangay Salunayan.

Police said the victims were in a drinking session at Mallari’s resident when two unidentified men on a motorbike arrived.

Without provocation, the suspects armed with cal. 45 and 9mm pistols opened fire on Mallari who died on the spot.  His companions across the table were wounded.

Police found empty shells for cal. 45 and 9mm pistols at the crime scene.

Motive of the attack remained unknown but police believed it was work related. Investigation continues.
