KIDAPAWAN CITY – The local government unit of Kidapawan has issued reminder to its constituents about possible landslides and flash floods as the state bureau officially announced the coming of rainy season.

On Monday afternoon, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported the overflow of at rivers in the city residential areas.

Mayor Joseph Evangelista of Kidapawan City said the city has prepared evacuation plan for residents living near creeks and rivers should the river water rises to critical level.

Evangelista has ordered Psalmer Bernalte, CDRRMO chief, to increase monitoring and evaluation of creeks and rivers to ensure nobody is hurt or no properties are damaged when flash floods and landslides occur.

There are landslide and flashflood-prone villages in the city that experienced disaster in the past years.

The mayor also reminded the public about health risks that accompany rainy season.

The city that sits beside the country’s highest peak has many tributaries that emanate from Mt. Apo and cross the heart of the city.

Evangelista also appealed to Kidapawenios not to drop garbage, especially plastics, in creeks and rivers for these will clog water ways and trigger flash floods.
