DOS loose firearms turned over to Army

SINSUAT, Maguindanao – Responding to the Army’s calls for local
government officials to help in the military’s campaign against loose firearms,
officials of Datu Odin Sinsuat (DOS), Maguindanao collected guns from civilians
and turned them over to the military Saturday.

Capt. Arvin
John Encinas, speaking for the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said a
total of 69 assorted high powered and low powered guns, all unlicensed, were
turned over by DOS Mayor Ombra Sinsuat to Lt. Colonel Crizaldo Fernandez, 90th
Infantry Battalion commander at the town’s gymnasium here.

Sinsuat said the
surrendered firearms were from the different villages of DOS collected by the
town mayor’s office.

Maguindanao 1st
district Rep. Bai Sandra S. Sema, Maguindanao Vice Governor Lester Sinsuat, RLA
Speaker Ronie Sinsuat, Vice Mayor Sajid Sinsuat, provincial board members and
village chairpersons witnessed the turn over rites.

The surrendered
guns include 22 Shotguns, four Uzi submachine guns, 15 M-79 laucnhers, 11 50
cal Barret rifles, two caliber .45 pistols, four Garand riffles, a Carbine
rifle, four M16 rifles, one M203 launcher, a 60 mm mortar, two Single shot
rifles, and two caliber .38 pistols.

Lt. Gen. Arnel
B. Dela Vega, commander of 6th Infantry Division, lauded the local officials
for responding to Pres. Duterte’s call for disarmament of Mindanao.

In 2018, a
total of 1135 were surrendered and recovered in the areas of 6th ID
