GEN. SANTOS CITY – Retirement from boxing is an option but not a priority for now for Senator Manny Pacquiao, it seems. Smile was the reply of Pambansang Kamao when reporters tried to ask him at Gen. Santos City International Airport if he considers retirement from the sport that made him famous after his sorry defeat from the hands of Australian Jeff Horn Sunday.Pacquiao’s chartered Air Asia jet landed here at about 2 p.m. where a police-military honor welcomed him. The visibly tired boxer kept smiling while talking briefly to welcoming delegations, led by Gen. Santos Acting City Mayor Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles and Sarangani Vice Gov. Elmer Peralta. I’m so happy, thank you for your warm welcome my kababayan, said Pacquiao, who was in dark glasses, black jacket and blue shirt. While a float and a motorcade around the city were prepared for him and his Team Pacquiao, the senator begged off but thanked the Gen. Santos City government for the preparation. He also apologized to his fans waiting along the road leading to the city proper, saying he needs to rest because he was not able to take a good sleep since the fight in Brisbane. Unlike previous homecomings, Pacquiao this time simply waved to the crowd and went directly to waiting vehicle after the police-led arrival honors. The dethroned Pacman earlier said in a TV interview that a rematch clause is clearly in his contract with Horn. He said if he decides a rematch, he would choose a referee and three judges.
