COTABATO CITY
– Small and medium traders and sidewalk vendors here have urged the local
government to put up stalls for them in an area where they can sell their wares
after they were driven out of the city sidewalks.

Requesting they
remained unidentified, the vendors, among those who were forcibly removed
from sidewalks along Sinsuat Avenue and other streets, have urged the city
government to provide them stalls so they can legitimately operate as vendors.

Implementing a
local ordinance, the city government had dismantled makeshift stalls and
structures on sidewalks that disrupt walkways for pedestrians and commuters for
occupying portion of the road network.

They were
asking for reconsideration from the city government by providing them
livelihood and permanent stalls where they can legally earn a living.

In the same
ordinance implementation, the city government found some vendors do not have
business permits from the city. They
were asked to renew business permits and ensure their businesses do not hamper
traffic flow.

The city is
yet to respond to vendors’ requests aired through the media. (Rhoderick Beñez)
