Cotabato Cityand No firecracker, bullet injury in New Year's revelry
COTABATO CITY --For the first time in so many years, the city government was happy to announce that the campaign against firecracker and bullet injury was successful with zero casualty during New Year's revelry. As of Sunday (January 1) afternoon, Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi said no one was injured by firecracker although the city residents welcomed 2017 with fireworks. The city health office (said) that there was no reported or confined patients who are victims of firecracker incident in relation to New Year’s revelry. First time (that) no injury case was reported in many years of welcoming new year, Sayadi quoted a report to her by the city health office.
Thank you Cotabatenios for the cooperation, Sayadi said in her Facebook post. Sayadi earlier issued Executive Order 185, banning firecrackers and regulating the sale and use of fireworks.
Despite the order, firecrackers and pyrotechnics colored the skyline of Cotabato City but not as massive as in previous years. In the facebook thread, Cotabatenios congratulated Sayadi for the effective campaign.
Last year, the city has tallied 10 firecracker related injuries during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Unlike in previous revelries, no single stray bullet victim this time despite common knowledge that firearms abound in the city and its environs.
