KORONADAL
CITY – Janera Bacos, Koronadal City’s oldest woman, has lost her sources of
income after the city government shut down its dumpsite in Barangay Paraiso few
days ago due to environmental sanitation issues. At 115 years old, Bacos, more known as
Nanay Janera, could be Koronadal's oldest person and is among the more than 300 persons whose primary source of
income, garbage, would have to find other means for a living. sand//scontent.fmnl4-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/15094919_1111447438962064_1160680876958764179_n.jpg?oh=d2ba99b877650bf1b425bc56456234d2andampoe=58C976D1 (Nanay Janera poses for DXOM-AM Radyo Bida after revealing her predicament. She looks younger, maybe about 80 but her children attested she is now 115 years old. The family could not produce her birth certificate or government authenticated record) Speaking to DXOM-AM Radyo Bida Koronadal in an exclusive interview,
Nanay Janera, the oldest scavenger here, said despite her age and frailties she
still wanted to continue digging the garbage dumpsite. But with the decision of the city government
to close the dumpsite, Nanay Janera could not say, or imagine, where to find
money now. Mindanao's oldest? She could be. She has been a forager the
past 40 years and her job was also inherited by her son, Ernesto, 62. And his family too.

Nanay
Janera could not exactly say how many are her grandchild as she has deficit
memory and could hardly hear. She appears to be about 80 years old but her children insisted she is 115 years old without presenting documentary proof life birth certificate.Despite
her situation, she continues to work for her family, saying she will get sick
if she does nothing. Looking at her, one
can say she has strong immune system considering the environment she has been
living in. sand//scontent.fmnl4-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/15027944_1111447452295396_7410229762013949128_n.jpg?oh=ae5d38976ce1aa3f9361f416e48439caandampoe=588B09E1 (Nanay Janera lives here - Radyo Bida photo) She and her family live just

There is money in garbage, she said in vernacular. I will continue finding money money in garbage, Nanay Janera, holding her cap and a cane, said.Country's oldest on recordFrancisca
Susano of Barangay Oringaom, Kabankalan, Negros Occidental could be the country’s
oldest human being at 119. She
celebrated her 119th birthday two months ago.

Born
on September 11, 1897, Susano got married at 14 and gave birth to her first
child at 17. She now has 14 children, 70
grand children and four great grand children.

Her
secret for long life was eating vegetables and fruits without
preservatives.

The Guinness of World Records is still verifying information about Susano and
may declare her to be the world’s oldest human being alive to date.
