COTABATO CITY --- Personnel of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division on Sunday beautified two mosques as a special Amon Jaded” offering to residents here and in nearby Datu Odin Sinsuat town in Maguindanao.
The activity was launched ahead of Amon Jaded, touted as the new year’s day,” or day one of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic lunar-based Hijrah calendar, which corresponded to October 3 in the Gregorian calendar.Hundreds of soldiers also collected garbage along a stretch of the highway connecting Cotabato City and the access route to Camp Siongco, the command center of 6th ID, in Barangay Awang in Datu Odin Sinsuat.

Major. Gen. Carlito Galvez, Jr., commander of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, said he is thankful to Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi for lending them heavy equipment to hasten the cleaning of the embankment and ditches along the highway.
Guiani-Sayadi, who assumed as mayor only last month following the demise of Cotabato City Mayor Japal Guiani, Jr., had earlier committed to support the peace-building and humanitarian activities of the police and the military in support of Malacañang’s peace overtures with local sectors.Sunday’s clean-up drive by the 6th ID, which also focused on the beautification of the surroundings of Islamic worship sites in Barangay Awang and at the Malagapas area in Cotabato City, was planned by Galvez, his civil-military relations assistant, Lt. Col. Markton Abo, officials of the 6th Civil Military Operations Battalion and the division’s public affairs office.Galvez said the activity was meant to prove the commitment of the 6th ID to the Mindanao peace process and to President Duterte’s local community empowerment initiatives.
