PhiHealth and SKEI officials sign MOA in Koronadal City (Tacurong Info office)

TACRUONG CITY - First in the country, bold and groundbreaking.

This is how PhilHealth CEO Alexander Padilla and
Sultan Kudarat Educational Institute (SKEI) School Director Dante Eugenio, MD
describe PhilHealth's newest program in the academe.

On 21 April 2015 at the EMR Center in Koronadal
City, the PhilHealth and SKEI entered into a Memorandum of Agreement for the
Integration of Social Health Insurance (SHI) modules into the Institute's
Midwifery and Nursing subjects - a first in the country.

This is the first time that we are formalizing our
entry to the academic curriculum, said CEO Padilla. What better way
[to create awareness and understanding on the role of SHI in the lives of
Filipinos] than to start education among our future players in the health care
industry, he added.

When I first heard about this program and
PhilHealth's intent to work with us, I askedand Why here in Tacurong? Why here in
Mindanao?, shared Dr. Eugenio.

Well, why not? answered Philhealth
VP on Corporate Affairs, Dr. Israel Francis A. Pargas.

At first I thought it was a ridiculous
idea...but when I became more familiar with it, I was enlightened on the
brilliance of this project, Dr. Eugenio added.

Mayor Lina Montilla who witnessed the MOA
signing also lauded the program. Daku ni nga bulig sa aton sa LGU. Ang
students nga ma-train subong, strong partners na naton sila sa ti-on nga sila
na ang frontline health care providers naton sa community, said Mayor
Montilla.

We hope [that] all other midwifery and
nursing institutions will follow, challenged Philhealth COO, Mr.Ramon F.
Aristoza, Jr.

What else can we say but to continue working
hand in hand for the sustainable implementation of this program,
Philhealth XII RVP, Dr. Miriam Grace Pamonag said.

After the MOA Signing, faculty and personnel of the SKEI and
Sultan Kudarat Doctors Hospital participated in an orientation session on the
National Health Act of 2013. They were also briefed on the role of partner
advocates in the National Health Insurance Program. Mayor Montilla also joined
the said orientation facilitated by Dr. Pargas.

Through this program, PhilHealth hopes to
empower future health care providers and frontliners to become its partner
advocates.
