Water is rationed in South Cotabato town

KORONADAL CITY -- As the dry spell continue to hound villagers in South Cotabato, residents of remote villages in Tampakan town have spent most of their time in water sourcing.Dondon Campomayor, a resident, said he has to bike for several kilometers to haul water from an open wellfor washing clothes and dishes. Our own deep well has dried up, he told SXOMN-AM Radyo Bida Koronadal. The dry spell has destroyed P79 million worth of banana and other high value crops in South Cotabato's 10 municipalities.Lucky for Campomayor he has water sources for his family as compared to residents in nearby villages who have to rely on water ration from the local government unit.A fire truck provide water for residents of Barangay Liberty for laundry, bathing and washing dishes. Tampakan is an upland town so deep well water sources is scarce. Liberty Barangay Chair Marilou Apayla said she has sought the help of the provincial government for villagers' drinking water.Residents were advised to boil all drinking water to stay safe from water borne diseases.
