KIDAPAWAN CITY – An Indian national engaged in money lending is in hot water after he was accused of slapping recently a Filipina clerk here for allegedly failing to pay her debt. Kidapawan City councilor Ruby Padilla-Sison, co-chair of the Committee on Women and Family of theSangguniang Panglungsod, said they will do everything to penalize the ‘Bombay’, local term for Indian national engaged in money lending with a very exorbitant interest. Sison heads the committee that investigates, in aid of legislation, the slapping incident of an Indianto a Filipina here. She said the ‘Bombay’was ‘barking on a wrong tree’ when he slapped a lady who was not actually indebted to him. Sison said the Filipina was surprised to see a fuming Indian national entered her store. Why would she pay the debt she did not incur? The slapping incident has degraded her person,” said Sison. The council said the slapping incident caught the attention of many people inside the public market here where the store is located. Reports said three members of the Civil Security Unit (CSU) immediately came to the rescue of the Filipina and forcibly brought the Indian national to the local police. Sison said that although the ‘ Bombay’ wanted the issue settled between him and the Filipina, still, theSanggunianwants the foreigner pay for his action. We will not just allow any national to degrade a Filipina. He is in our country, therefore, he must accord us respect, especially our women,” said Sison. Sison said the victim has already left her job after the humiliating incident. Sison said she will also ask her staff to check with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) if the Bombay is paying regularly his taxes for doing money lending here.
