Man in Magpet arrested for illegal gun possession

North Cotabato – A man claiming he was an 'asset' of the Criminal Investigation
and Detection Team (CIDT) in North Cotabato was arrested here for illegal
possession of firearm, police said.
A CIDT is a unit under CIDG.Senior
Inspector Realan Mamon, Magpet police chief, said Wilmer Benemirito was charged
with illegal possession of firearm before the provincial prosecutor office.
Mamon said
Benemirito was driving a pick-up vehicle which hit a lamp post in Barangay
Poblacion, Magpet.
When
traffic enforcers arrived to investigate, they noticed something was bulging in
Benemirito’ waist, a cal. 45 pistol.
When checked,
he claimed he was an asset of the CIDT-North Cotabato but could not present
proof nor permit to carry firearm or a license.
An 'asset refers to an informer or a civilian agent helping a police or a military organization.CIDT-NorCot
head Chief Inspector Doreen Mauricio could not be reached for comment.
