Displaced OFWs from Libya get aid from DOLE-12

KORONADAL CITY
(Sept. 8/NDBC) – Displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from beleaguered
Libya who have returned home will have something to attend to.

OFW expatriates who originated from Region 12 were immediately assisted by the
Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Overseas Workers Welfare
Administration (OWWA) through the Assist WELL Program.

In a
statement, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in the region said 35
documented and three undocumented OFWs from different provinces of Region 12 have
immediately received P10,000 financial assistance after their expatriation last
July 2014 from troubled country of Libya.

Buenviaje, a Filipina nurse previously working in Libya and a resident of
General Santos City was among the Assist WELL program” beneficiary. She was
grateful the government has programs for distress OFWs like her so I can
restart life anew here.”

Pasalamat
kami sa DOLE and OWWA sa financial assistance, malaki ang maitutulong nito para
makapagsimula kami dito sa Pilipinas kasama ang aming mga pamilya (We are
grateful to DOLE and OWWA, at least we have something to start anew with our
families),” Buenviaje said.

Assist WELL
program provides comprehensive reintegration services for repatriate OFWs from
countries experiencing crisis situations or emergencies such as Libya, Syria,
Afghanistan, Iraq and Kenya.

OFWs shall be
assisted from the time of their repatriation overseas to their return and
reintegration with their family, community and the economy.

Assistance
which can be availed include Welfare, Employment, Livelihood and Legal.

The P2-Billion
Reintegration Loan Fund for OWWA member, Balik-Pinay, Balik-Hanapbuhay” for
distressed OFWs, and the P10-k Livelihood Assistance for non-documented workers
can be availed by repatriated workers. (NDBC)
