Floods hit North Cotabato upland town too

PRESIDENT
ROXAS, North Cotabato (Sept. 6/NDBC) – Climate change continue to take its toll
on environment that even in upland towns, like this municipality experienced
floods.

About 20
farmers in the village of Alegria were displaced when the Kabacan River
overflowed due to inclement weather the past five days.

village chair, said several hectares of rice and corn fields, including banana
plantations were damaged, costing farmers several hundred thousand pesos.

Residents
living along the riverbanks of Kabacan River are now worried after the floods
created embankment due to rampaging waters.

Farmers
are still waiting for seedling assistance from the local government.

Ibrahim
Unayan, North Cotabato provincial engineering office spokesperson, said experts
heading to Barangay Alegria to assess the situation and ensure no villagers are
harmed by calamity.

Nobody
was hurt in the flash floods that witnesses said came quickly and left quickly.

in North Cotabato The weeklong torrential rains flooded 26 of Maguindanao's 36 municipalities.
