2 girls drown in North Cotabato river

KIDAPAWAN CITY -What was supposed to be a party time for two girls turned out to betragic when both died after they drowned in a river in Arakan town in North Cotabato on Monday. Superintendent Bernard Tayong, spokesman for the Cotabato Provincial Police Office (CPPO), said the girls, aged 13 and 14, were classmates who wanted to enjoy the holiday by getting a dip on the Tinanan River located in Sitio Valencia, Barangay Santo Nino in Arakan. Both drowning victims were pupils of the Meocan Elementary School in Barangay Meocan, also in Arakan. Tayong said both agreed to enjoy the Bonifacio day by having some fun. It, however, ended tragically when one of the girls took a dip and never came back. The other girl tried to save her classmate but just like her, she alsodrowned. Their lifeless bodies were discovered floating near the bridge at Sitio Valencia, Barangay Meocan. Tayong said they are still investigating the case.
