Man hacks wife in Koronadal cemetery, she survived

KORONADAL CITY - A woman is now fighting for her life hours after she was hacked and seriously woundedby her husband who was a government worker the other day, police said.A concerned neighbor quickly alerted the police of the bizarre crime after he sawGina Mercurio, 34, lying almost dead in the city's public cemetery at past 6 p.m.Gina, a resident of Mabini Street, Barangay Zone 4, Koronadal City,sustained hack wounds in different parts of her body, including her face. Frowning in pain, Gina could hardly talk but managed to tell police her attacker was her husband.Police identified the husband as Edgar Mercurio, an employee of the Koronadal City environment and natural resources office. He was arrested in a follow-up operation.The Koronadal City PNP investigators remained clueless what triggered Edgar to hack his wife in a least expected place - the cemetery.
