Koronadal mulls relocation of residents living in danger zones

KORONADAL CITY - The Koronadal City government is planning to relocate residences situated along river banks and landslide prone areas.This after the city declared Sitio El Gawel, Barangay Saravia as permanent danger zone because the risk of a landslide is very high.Mayor Peter Miguel said the 18 families of indigenous peoples may be relocated to a 2.8 hectare site in Barangay New Pangasinan.He said the lot area in Barangay New Pangasinan was donated by Camella Homes to the city government as possible relocation site.Displaced residents of Purok Aguinaldo, Barangay Concepcion who used to live along Marbel creek would be accommodated in the relocation site, Miguel said.Frequent rain and lack of trees along the river bank where the villagers used to live would be dangerous to dwellers.Also considered for relocationare residents living beside the river in Purok Roxas,Barangay Esperanza, Koronadal City.Flash floods brought about by torrential rain last week left several low lying villages under water, bridges destroyed and road networks affected.An estimated P252 million are needed to fully repair the damaged roads and destroyed bridges in South Cotabato, including Koronadal City.
