In Region 12, N. Cotabato has lowest crime incidents

COTABATO CITY – North Cotabato has the lowest number of crime
incidents and second in terms of the number of cleared cases in Region 12
during the first half of the year, a police official said.

Senior Supt. Danilo Peralta, provincial police director, told the North
Cotabato Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting over the weekend
that an intensified anti-crime efforts of the police, military and other peace
keepers led to these two accomplishments of the police provincial office.Region 12, also known as SOCCSKSARGEN region, is composed of the
provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato and Saranggani and
the cities of Cotabato, Kidapawan, Koronadal, Tacurong and Gen. Santos.

Based on Region 12 PNP crime statistics, North Cotabato province has
38.57 percent average monthly crime rate while General Santos City, recorded to
have the highest crime in the region, has 137.03 percent.

Presiding the PPOC meeting, North Cotabato Gov. Emmlou Mendoza lauded the
police accomplishment of 72.55 percent crime clearance efficiency (percentage
of cleared cases out of the total number of crime incidents handled by the law
enforcement agency), ranking next to Saranggani PPO’s 81.83 percent.

The provincial government, through the PNP, army, and its auxiliary
forces, has beefed up peace and security measures by implementing various
programs and activities such as the conduct of checkpoints and choke points in
strategic locations, implementation of curfew hours in different barangays, and
police integrated patrol system in several areas to thwart crimes.

Mendoza urged the police, especially those assigned in known crime prone
areas in North Cotabato to further improve the campaign against crimes, particularly
crime against property and crime against life.

Supt. Peralta also vowed to improve police visibility as a vital
instrument in crime prevention.
