Why its always heavy traffic around Cotabato City mega market
COTABATO CITY - Commuters have been
asking why roads around the Cotabato City mega market have always been heavy or
snail paced.
Mayor Japal Guiani Jr gave the ready
answer to a problem that remained unresolved through the years.
Stalls put up along the road sides, SK
Pendatun Extension and Dona BlancaStreet have been causing the slow flow of
traffic, the mayor said.
Small time vendors prefer to put up
stalls and lay down goods along the roadside for two reasons, a market goer has
said.
First, vendors evade paying stall
rentals inside the mega market and second, selling is quick outside because
market goers no longer enter the market place since they can buy goods outside.
Guiani agreed so he ordered the
demolition of stalls and other structuresoutside the building to allow vendors to sell their wares
inside.As simple as that.
Guiani said he conducted two surprise
visits at the mega market and told vendors to move inside.
Stalls of those who refused to vacate
the roadsides were demolished. The goods
were spared, only the stalls were removed, he said.
Guiani also directed market
administration officials to monitor the vacated areas to prevent vendors from
returning as illegal side walk vendors.
