Wayward cargo truck hits 2 motorbikes, hurt 5

KIDAPAWAN CITY
– Five persons in separate motorbikes were hurt when a cargo truck loaded with
500 sacks of farm fertilizer lost its brake and plowed them Tuesday morning
along a highway in Makilala, North Cotabato.

Injured and now recuperating in a hospital were
Dante Tejada, 42, Alfredo Batac, 56, both workers of a banana plantation,
Anthony Tenorio, 23, Antonio Antipuesto, 28, all residents of Makilala and
truck helper Jovan Zamora, 38 of Barangay Binoligan, Kidapawan City.

Traffic investigation disclosed that the cargo
truck, a FUSO Super Great Wing Van (ABU-9790) was driven by Carl Joseph Playda
Amallo, 26 of Barangay Binoligan, Kidapawan City and was tailing two motorbikes
in the highway in Barangay Poblacion.

As the truck was nearing Lamitan Bridge, the driver
said, the vehicles brake system malfunctioned at about 8:30 a.m. and it was too
late for him to avoid the two motorcycles in front.

The crash shut
down portion of the highway for few minutes as sacks of fertilizers liter the
road network.

Zamora, the
truck helper, was pinned when the truck smashed electric posts and fell off a
cliff.
